The Hope Road Project has been working on supporting education for girls in the rural village of Abyei Achok in Gok State in South Sudan, including the building of a primary school. The project was initiated by a young refugee to Australia, Zacharia Machiek, one of the ‘lost boys of South Sudan’, at the request of his village community. It has remained very community based with brick-making and construction work carried out by the local people. The project is operated through a Sydney-based committee of volunteers and is supported by the Rotary Club of Sydney.
