UN celebrates 75 years: Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Cenotaph, and Rotary Club of Sydney was there.

To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations, on Friday October 23rd, we were privileged to remember the valiant service and sacrifice of our United Nations Police and Military Peace Keepers and those of the United Nations Civil Service within their respective theatres of operation. In attendance was the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Mr. Dennis Wilson, Senator Major General Jim Molan AO DSC, and Mr. Warren Mundine AO, were the Distinguished Guests of Honour .

A Catafalque Party and Flag Orderlies will be supplied by the Australian Army.  The New South Wales Police Band and Soloist was also officiating.

With only 50 in attendance, this turned out to be a dignified ceremony, where many of the diplomatic corps, the armed forces, police forces and community leaders – such as The Rotary Club of Sydney were invited to this significant event. A wreath was laid by our club and had the following words laid across it: “ The Rotary Club of Sydney celebrates the work of the United Nations Peacekeepers on the 75th UN Anniversary. ”

Thank you to our own Geoffrey Little of Rotary Club of Sydney, who was the convenor, organiser and Master of Ceremonies on the day. It was moving experience and reminded all of us of the important work the UN does. UNAA of NSW were the hosts of the day, and we were honoured to be part of this important ceremony.
