MUNA is an annual, two-day weekend event that is part of an International Rotary project to educate senior high school students (years 10 – 12) on the United Nations organisation and its vital commitment to world peace, in addition to health, education and living standards around the world. Our club enters a team annually.

The event which is held at NSW State Parliament House, provides an excellent forum for students to develop and practice their public speaking skills whilst debating on topical world issues. Senior high school students develop an awareness of the United Nations and the countries they represent at a simulated UN Assembly. The participants research the nominated resolutions and prepare a speech. They dress themselves in the national dress of their country and learn a lot about local issues of the country they represent.

This fantastic and fun event builds young leaders with a global perspective in mind. The team that places first in MUNA in our district is invited to compete at the old Parliament House in Canberra.

MUNA was first held by Rotary at Winnipeg, Canada, and was introduced to Australia by the Rotary Club of Lake Cargelligo in 1980.  MUNA has spread throughout Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and world-wide.
