Indigenous Education Scholarships; Rotary Soukup Scholarship Fund

The Club strongly believes that education changes the lives of individuals, communities and the nation and that these scholarships will ultimately contribute to a fairer and a more prosperous Australia.  We are proud as a club to have awarded 13 scholarships over the years,  to students at the University Sydney and the University of Technology, Sydney.

The Rotary Club of Sydney’s Soukup Memorial Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to young, post-secondary students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent whose means would not otherwise permit them to undertake tertiary study. Currently the Scholarships support students at The University of Sydney and The University of Technology, Sydney. The Club strongly believes that education changes the lives of individuals, communities and the nation and that these scholarships will ultimately contribute to a fairer and a more prosperous Australia.

The scholarships are supported by a significant donation made to the Club by George and Jenny Soukup in memory of George’s parents, Vaclav and Bed’a Soukup. George and Jenny Soukup were made Honorary Members of the RCS in 2014; George is deceased however Jenny remains an Honorary Member. Scholarships have also been supported by financial contributions from other Club members. If you, your family or business would like to discuss supporting an additional scholarship, or adding to the fund’s corpus, please contact the committee’s chair Gillean Wilbow. The club would be happy to vary the name of a future scholarship to reflect the wishes of a donor .Alternatively, you can simply contribute to a Rotary Soukup Scholarship by making a tax deductible donation via the club’s Benevolent Fund. Please write “Rotary Soukup Scholarship” in the comments section for online donations or on the back of the cheque. All donated money is used to support scholarships. The administration is done by volunteer club members and any costs are covered by club members not by donations. More detailed information to come.
