Launch of our “New” Climate Action Group

21 July 2020, 12:30 - 21 July 2020, 14:00

We are excited about launching our Climate Action Group on July 21, 2020. This is a new group, and the intention with the Climate Action Group is firstly to look at the science and secondly to look at solutions (the “action” part of the name).

Climate change is a problem so complex that it affects all of us, everywhere and all the sciences. In our group meetings, we will hear scientists speak on subjects such as biodiversity, oceanography, weather patterns, environmental research, agricultural and farming practices, mass production, food waste, pollution and many others. We may watch films/videos of Dr Jane Goodall and Sir David Attenborough. We will also hear about solutions as I don’t believe we can look only at the problems without offering room for hope.

Rotary International has recently placed the Environment at the centre of its six areas of focus: promoting peace; fighting disease; providing clean water; saving mothers and children; supporting education and growing local economies. ESRAG (Environmental Sustainability Rotarian Action Group) https://www.esrag.org/ coordinates Rotary climate groups around the world and is a reference for clubs to take climate action and share their work. Unfortunately, the global climate crisis has been politicised, again by those with a vested interest in doing so. Our aim is to inform ourselves of the science.

We invite each and every one of you to attend our meetings which will be monthly and follow the launch of the new group on Tuesday 21 July at our club meeting.
