President’s Message
Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Welcome to our new Rotary Year!
I wanted to commence by extending my thanks to the 80 Rotarians, friends and family who joined us for Changeover lunch on Tuesday to celebrate the conclusion of a great year, including the significant achievements of President Phoebe’s leadership.
Our many successes last year, including the 105th Celebration at State Parliament, were founded on Phoebe’s leadership and energy.
To echo the sentiments expressed by many speakers at lunch, including mine, Thank you, Phoebe! for the considerable work and passion you brought to your Presidency.
As for the year ahead, I spoke yesterday of plans already in place, which, I anticipate, will:
elevate Club member engagement in the Club’s service and fellowship;
elevate our Club and its work in the minds of our local communities; and
elevate our achievements through new and existing projects, and through our continuing service to community.
These outcomes will indeed “Create Lasting Impact!” and so resonate with RI President Olayinka Hakeem Babalola theme for the Rotary year ahead.
Some highlights already etched into our Club Program for the year ahead:
Tomorrow’s induction of Her Excellency Sam Mostyn AC, Governor General of Australia, as a Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Sydney;
Our first Club meeting of the year on Tuesday 7 July. Our guest speaker, appropriately as we commence the new FY, is Conrad Burge, Head of Investments at Fiducian, who will assist us to navigate new opportunities and avoid potential pitfalls along the economic path ahead;
A suite of headline speakers at Club lunches through the year, including former NSW Premier and Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Bob Carr (in October); the Governor of the RBA, Michele Bullock (in March 2027); and the Chief Justice of NSW, Hon. Andrew Bell AC (towards the last quarter of the year);
A suite of sustainability themed addresses on “How to Save the World ..”, commencing with a first address by well known, and well loved, PDG Jeremy Wright AM, on “How to Save the World … with bees!”;
And more (we need to keep few surprises up our sleeves!)
So, a great year ahead. A great time to be a member of the Rotary Club of Sydney. Spread the word. See you at lunch next Tuesday as we start this adventure.

Save the Date: Tuesday, 21 July Club Luncheon with PDG Jeremy Wright, AM We are thrilled to welcome Past District Governor Jeremy Wright, AM, to our next Club Luncheon. Jeremy, the National Chair of Rotarians for Bees, will present on a topic that touches all of us: “How to save the World … with bees!”
Drawing on his experience as a beekeeper, Jeremy will reveal the critical role bees play in our food supply and ecosystem and why protecting them is more urgent than ever. Awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in 2021 for his service to the community, Jeremy is a leader we are proud to host.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn, connect with fellow Rotarians, and discover how we can all contribute to environmental sustainability.
