Rotary Zone 8 Regionalisation Pilot Update

Dear Rotary or Rotaract member,

Thank you to the over 200 people who attended our July webinars to hear the latest updates on the Regionalisation Pilot. You can view a recording of one of the webinars here.

Rotary and Rotaract clubs and members are at the heart of the Regionalisation Pilot. You are the ones who make a difference in your communities everyday and attract people to Rotary and Rotaract. The Pilot’s main goal is to find ways to more effectively and efficiently support you and your club to increase impact, grow membership, and adapt to changing volunteer needs and expectations.

We encourage you to actively discuss this opportunity in your club. In this update there are two key changes where you and your club have the opportunity to have an active voice.  

Regional Council Election

Governance across the zone will be overseen by a Regional Council elected by clubs. The Regional Council will be led by a Chair who will be supported by a Chair-Elect, with each serving two-year terms.

As Rotarians and Rotaractors of Rotary Districts participating in the Regionalisation Pilot, you will soon be able to apply for the Regional Council positions of Chair, Chair-Elect and Portfolio Leads. Only Rotaractors can apply to be the Rotaract Nominee. The role descriptions for these positions are now available on the Creating Tomorrow website.

You will receive further emails in the coming weeks about the election process and how to apply for Regional Council roles.

Once all nominations are received, we will be coming back to Club Presidents who will vote on behalf of their club to elect Regional Council positions, with the election expected to take place in October this year. This will be a critical opportunity for clubs to choose who will lead our region.

Community Groups

From 1 July 2024 the proposed regional model includes a new way of grouping clubs, with each group of clubs referred to as a ‘Rotary Community Group’.  By working together, clubs can support each other to increase their impact, amplify Rotary’s public image, and strengthen member engagement. 

Club Presidents and Secretaries will soon receive information to start club conversations about how you would like to be grouped with other clubs.

Once clubs select their Community Groups, we will then be ready to start the process of nominations and elections for Rotary Community Leaders (RCLs) to mentor and support them.
